Lobectomy by Uniportal VATS in the surgical management of arteriovenous pulmonary fistula: case report
Main Article Content
Abstract
Introduction: Pulmonary Arteriovenous Fistulas (PAVF) are rare anomalous communications between arteries and pulmonary veins.
Case presentation: 44-year-old male patient who debuted with massive hemoptysis and chest pain, imaging studies are inconclusive, bronchoscopy with findings of active bleeding from the left lower lobe, due to high suspicion of PAVF is taken to the operating room to perform left inferior lobectomy video assisted uniportal.
Discussion: The PAVF often present symptoms and serious complications such as hemoptysis compromising the patient´s life therefore, the management of this patient was a priority and timely with a minimally invasive approach through uniportal assisted video thoracoscopy.
Conclusion: The current management of PAVF is embolization. However, the anatomical surgical management by uniportal VATS offers a successful and minimally invasive treatment in single PAVF, which should be considered even when the diagnostic tests are inconclusive.
